Stephen A. Smith co-host of First Take on ESPN gave a lecture at Vanderbilt University his co-host Skip Baylis Alma Mata. During his speech, Stephen A. stated “I have often said that from a political perspective what I dream is that for one election, just one, every black person in America vote Republican. Want me to tell you why I feel that way? Because from what I’ve read — and I’m open to correction — but from what I’ve read, Barry Goldwater is going against Lyndon B. Johnson. He’s your Republican candidate. He is completely against the Civil Rights Movement. Lyndon B. Johnson was in favor of it. What happens is, he wins office, Barry Goldwater loses office. But there was a Senate, a Republican Senate that pushed the votes to the president’s desk. It was the Democrats who were against Civil Rights legislation, so because President Lyndon B. Johnson was a Democrat, black America assumed the Democrats were for it.”
Now let me preface my comments by saying I admire Stephen A. Smith he is a highly intelligent black man, and I have been following his career for over 20years. I agree and disagree with him on this topic. Here is why; I don’t think every black person should vote Republican. I believe that blacks should split their votes between the two parties and have an agenda in place that the two sides will have to take into consideration while courting the black vote.
He goes on say, and I’m going to paraphrase, that since 1964 that black Americans have not given anymore than 15% of their vote to the Republican party. By primarily voting Democratic, blacks, have labeled themselves disenfranchised because one party knows they have the black vote in hand. The Republican Party knows they will not get the black vote. Therefore, the black issues will never get addressed.
Most blacks say the Republican Party is all racist like there is no racist in the Democratic Party. Blacks need to understand that becoming economically independent will give them power and control of their destiny but there are many that will die before they allow that to happen. WAKE UP BLACK AMERICA!!!!
